El Spero serves up average restaurant fare and does it fairly well. They have a family-friendly environment, with nice servers who seem to like kids. They have crayons and menus to colour on, and offer a crossword puzzle for older kids. Their kids’ menu covers all the bases, including French toast and pancakes. My three-year-old was especially delighted that they had jam and toast on the menu, which is pretty much her entire repertoire these days.
Their burger is homemade and pretty good. I hate frozen prefab burgers, so that’s a big thing for me.
The ambiance is a bit dated -- fitting for being inside Hopedale Mall -- but the easy, stress-free dinner is worth it. Thumbs up for dining with your kids; thumbs down for a romantic date.
